Background

The World Food Programme was one of Prism’s first Collective Funds.

The World Food Programme is committed to eradicating global poverty, working tirelessly with partners around the globe to save lives in emergencies and use food assistance to foster peace, stability, and prosperity for communities recovering from conflict, disasters, and climate change.

Problem

In June 2015, The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) approached Prism with a challenge: as a UN entity based in Rome, they were not a UK-registered charity but needed a way to tax-effectively raise funds from UK donors.

They had been named as the main charity partners for the Rugby World Cup later that year, hosted in the UK. The government had pledged to match donations pound for pound. To maximize the impact of the donations, they needed a solution fast.

“The United Nations World Food Programme has had a longstanding partnership with Prism that allowed us to unlock additional fundraising and activities in the UK to support our mission. Prism has a positive daily impact on our donors by providing them with a solution to contribute, fundraise as a community and support our work in a tax-effective manner to maximize the impact of their donation.”

Impact

By partnering with Prism, they were able to put in place the infrastructure needed to fundraise efficiently and compliantly under Prim’s ‘British Friends Of’ model.

A decade later and they are still working with Prism.

“Prism further enables us to raise funds in our mission as the largest humanitarian organization saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace, stability and prosperity for people recovering from conflict, disasters, and the impact of climate change.”
